Manuel Maldonado

Manuel “Manny” Maldonado, Director of Percussion and Associate Director of Bands at Cedar Park High School, is the Conductor of the Cadet Band and the and is also responsible for Percussion Studies, 6th-12th grade, across the district. While at Cedar Park High School, Manny has helped the Timberwolf Band become a consistent top 10 finalist at Bands of America events and winner of numerous invitational championships such as the Westlake Marching Festival in both 2004 and 2005, the 2002 Duncanville Marching Invitational, and the Carrollton Tournament of Champions. In 2004 the band was recognized with the Silver Medal at the 5A-State Marching Band Contest. Under his direction, his percussion ensembles have played such literature as Ney Rousaro’s Concerto for Marimba and Percussion Ensemble as well as Christopher Rouse’s Ogoun Badagris, Bonham, and Kuka-Illamuko.

Manny received his degree in Music Studies from the University of Texas where he performed in the UT wind ensemble, symphony orchestra, Longhorn Band, percussion ensemble, multiple jazz combos, and was the percussionist for the UT theatre department’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Company. During this time, he also performed with a San Antonio-based rock group, a jazz ensemble, and a country band on the side. Manny also was a member of Drum Corps International’s The Cavaliers of Rosement Illinois in 1999. That year, the corps placed third in world finals competition, with the percussion placing first.

Mr. Maldonado is active in the United States as a clinician, adjudicator, and composer. He arranges marching shows for various schools in Texas during the spring and summer months. Since 2002, Manny’s passion has been delivering SASI’s empowerment seminars across the state of Texas to young leaders of band, choir, dance and cheer. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, and the Percussive Arts Society. Manny lives in Leander with his beautiful wife Candace.
