Michael Howard

Michael Howard, Associate Director of Bands at Morton Ranch High School, is the director of the Concert Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble and Marching Percussion Program. As one of the founding directors of a newly opened high school, he has helped the band achieve consistent UIL First Divisions in Marching, Concert and Sight-reading; as well as Best in Class and Class Champion awards at numerous Invitational Marching and Concert Competitions (SHSU Marching Festival, Katy ISD Marching, American Classics and DC Festivals). Before coming to Morton Ranch, Howard was most recently a percussion instructor for the Cedar Park High School Band in Austin, Texas and for the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps from Madison, Wisconsin where the groups he worked with made appearances in the Texas State Marching Band Finals and the Drum Corps International World Championship Finals.

As an active percussion clinician, he has conducted clinics all over Texas and the Midwest including clinic appearances at PASIC and Yamaha Sounds of Summer. Aside from percussion, Howard is an active marching and leadership clinician and consultant throughout the state of Texas. Since 2004, he has taught the SASI marching and leadership curriculum to high schools throughout the state. As a performer, Mr. Howard has performed with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps, the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and the Austin Lyric Opera. Howard graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and his professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association and Percussive Arts Society. He lives in Katy with his wife Amber and daughter Madison.
