Dr. Rod Schueller

Dr. Rodney C. Schueller is Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Texas State University-San Marcos. In this capacity, he serves as Conductor of the Wind Ensemble, Director of the Bobcat Marching Band and Basketball Band, and oversees and conducts the Symphonic Winds. He also observes student teachers and serves as the chief administrator of the Department of Bands. He is a member of the Graduate Faculty and serves on several committees within the School of Music.

Prior to his appointment at Texas State, Dr. Schueller held faculty appointments at Northern Illinois University and Western Illinois University. At Western Illinois, he served as Associate Director of Bands and Director of the Marching Leathernecks. He earned the Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance and Music Education from the University of Iowa (1994), the Master of Music degree in Wind Conducting from Indiana University (1997), and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Wind Conducting from Michigan State University (2003). He has studied wind conducting with Ray E. Cramer and John L. Whitwell, with additional studies in orchestral conducting with James Dixon and Leon Gregorian. He credits Morgan Jones, John T. Madden and David Woodley as his athletic band mentors.

Dr. Schueller is a contributing author to three volumes in the Teaching Music Through Performance in Band series published by GIA and has published articles in both the Bandmasters Review and The Instrumentalist. He holds honorary memberships in Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and is a National Arts Associate in Sigma Alpha Iota. He is currently a member of the College Band Directors National Association, the National Band Association, the College Music Society, and both the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association. Dr. Schueller was a clinician at the 2005 Texas Bandmasters Association Convention in San Antonio, presenting a clinic on conducting.

He remains active as an adjudicator, clinician and conductor. As an arranger, his catalog includes over 100 titles for high school and college athletic bands.
