Tarren Vielma
Tarren Vielma is currently a senior music education major at the University of Houston. She served as the Drum Major for the “Spirit of Houston” Cougar Marching Band from 2005-2008 and was the recipient of the 2008 Kevin Borgfeldt Leadership Award. Tarren is a student of David Bertman and Tom Bennett and has played in numerous performing ensembles, including the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds at the Moores School of Music. She has studied saxophone with Dr. Karen Wylie and Valarie Vidal, and was a member of the award-winning Syncrisis Saxophone Quartet in 2006.
Tarren has been an active instructor for SASI and has delivered empowerment seminars and Drum Major camps to high school band student leadership groups across the state of Texas since the summer of 2003. In addition, she has worked with several high school marching bands in the Houston area, including Friendswood HS, Cy-Fair HS, and Pearland HS. She has also taught private saxophone lessons for the Cy-Fair, Fort Bend, Clear Creek, and Pearland school districts.
Tarren is a 2003 graduate of Cedar Park High School in Cedar Park, TX. She will complete her student-teaching and graduate from the University of Houston in the Fall of 2008. Tarren’s professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association and Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority.
