KAITLYN NORWOOD

Associate Director of Bands
Wakeland High School

Ms. Kaitlyn Norwood joined the Wakleand High School Band Staff as the Associate Band Director in 2025. She is joining us from Prosper ISD, where she was previously an Assistant Band Director at Rushing Middle School. During her time at Rushing Middle School, she taught beginner saxophone, trombone, euphonium, and tuba, as well as jazz band, and led the Concert Band. Under her direction, the Concert Band received unanimous Superior ratings and was named 3rd runner-up at the North Texas Festival of Distinction in 2025. Most notably, she assisted the Wind Symphony during their performance at the 77th Annual Midwest Clinic and Convention in Chicago, Illinois.

Before her appointment at Rushing Middle School, she student-taught in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD at Colleyville Heritage High School with Gary Barnard and Colleyville Middle School with Lauren Jones. During her time at CHHS, she led the Concert Band to the South Coast Music Festival in Corpus Christi, where they received unanimous superior ratings.

Ms. Norwood hails from Georgetown, Texas, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas Christian University, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. Now, she is completing her Master's in Music. During her four years at TCU, she served as Drum Major of the TCU Horned Frog Marching Band, Trombone section leader, TCU School of Music Ambassador, and Young Band Directors of Texas TCU Representative. She was a marching technician for two years at Aledo High School and taught private lessons in Fort Worth ISD throughout college. Ms. Norwood performed in the Wind Symphony under Mr. Bobby Francis, the Symphonic Band under Mr. Brian Youngblood, the Jazz Ensemble under Mr. Joseph Carter, and the TCU Trombone Choir under Dr. David Begnoche. Her notable performances with the TCU Wind Symphony include the TMEA Clinic and Convention in 2020 and the American Trombone Workshop in 2020 with the TCU Trombone Choir.

Ms. Norwood has served on the staff of the TCU Band and Leadership Experience Summer Band Camp and SASi The Leadership People. Before joining SASi, Ms. Norwood was a three-year drum major at Georgetown High School and led the band to state in 2017.

Ms. Norwood’s professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Educators, Young Band Directors of Texas, Tau Beta Sigma, Alpha Delta Pi, and Order of Omega. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Norwood enjoys traveling, eating queso, and shopping!
